Assignment #3 - Pinhole Photography

Taylor Lee
Pinhole Camera
Feb20/13
This was my first image taken and it was the one that turned out the best. I wish i had, had a better understanding of how much the camera photographed. While capturing this, I assumed that the church would be much closer. The day was overcast but the snow made it brighter also. My shutter was held open for around 37-40 seconds to capture this image.

This image was taken on the same day as the last and my shutter was held open for the same amount of time but it became over exposed I infer because my camera was too close to the snow which made the scene much brighter. Therefore my shutter needed to be open for a shorter amount of time.

This photograph was taken on a sunny/cloudy day so my shutter was open for around 17-20 seconds and again my camera was very close to the bright snow so I shortened the time that my shutter was open significantly. The only problem I had with the process of taking this photo was cars driving in front of my lens resulting in the black smear across the house.

Gr. 12 Extension Assignment #2

These photographers both shoot potraits, though the subject matter of humans and emotion seems similar, upon closer analysis it is clear that theme and style in their work differ greatly. A lot more of Larry Clark's photos are black and white and Sultan usually uses colour more often than not. Both of their photographs are relatively "set up" but I think Larry Sultans are more so than Clarks with people and objects being strategically placed using composition and Clark having more naturally shot photos. A number of Larry Clark's photos have a much darker mood than Sultan's involving subjects such as suicide, self harm and drug use whilst Sultans tell more of a general story rather than focusing on the emotions in expression. Both of their styles involve nudity though Larry Clark portrays It in a more subtle way and Sultan's use of it is broader and undisguised. Though the artists use the same subject matter it is clear that their styles and interpretation of human emotion and activity vary from each other greatly.

Metallic ink

"Beibeees"
A mix between ink and portraiture
Alberto Seveso

Photoshop and abstractism is unlike my usual personal style and interest of nature photography, but I do have basic photoshop skills and this style I find so captivating and awesome. I would love to learn and attempt the techniques used in these photos and gain the skills to produce images just as facinating.
The ink and portraiture photograph is my favorite because of the dynamic colours, eyeleading composition and the overall feeling of magic and mystery the photograph portrays. There is very good contrast between the white background and the bright colours and dark shadows on the face.
This photograph has nice eyeleading qualities due to to the face being right on the rule of thirds and the rest of the ink flowing away from it into the negative space behind it. The strongest colours are also put on the rule of thirds bringing focus to the focal point of the portrait.
